Alan Chan is a multi-faceted composer with works written for orchestra, jazz big band, Chinese instruments, and various percussion and chamber settings. He creates original and innovative music by incorporating music from cultures around the globe, in order to bring a refreshing experience to audiences. He has received commissions and awards from ASCAP, ArtEZ (Netherlands), American Composers Forum (ACF), Los Angeles County Arts, Percussive Arts Society (PAS) and Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH), among others.

2. René's Barcarolle for jazz big band

…je vis is a musical setting of text by French philosopher and poet René Daumal (1908-1944), for Emily Mast’s MFA Thesis Exhibition on 3/5/2009 - a one-act play/installation features 5 actors, artificial audience, accordionist and guitarist. (see above photo) René's Barcarolle is a fantasy for jazz big band inspired by show.
